A Tale of Resilience, Courage, and Patriotism
The Indian Armed Forces are known worldwide for their valor and bravery. However, even after retirement, our ex-servicemen continue to serve the nation by advocating for their rights and ensuring their demands are addressed. Their dedication and selfless service deserve utmost respect and recognition.
Even after retirement, our ex-servicemen continue to fight for their rights. To address various grievances and unify their voices, more than 175 ex-servicemen organizations from across India came together to form the Federation of Veterans’ Association on April 9, 2023. Since then, they have taken several crucial steps to ensure that their concerns reach the government.
To bring attention to their demands, a peaceful protest began on February 20, 2023, at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. Recognizing the need for a structured platform, the Federation of Veterans’ Association took charge and amplified the movement from April 9, 2023, onwards.
Memorandum Submission:
- April 3, 2023: A memorandum was submitted through all District Magistrates.
- April 30, 2023: The memorandum was resubmitted through public representatives due to no response.
- May 30, 2023: For the third time, the memorandum was submitted through SDMs and Tehsildars nationwide.
Despite multiple efforts, the government remained unresponsive. As a result, on July 2, 2023, ex-servicemen across the country observed a one-day hunger strike at all district headquarters. This was a significant step to convey the gravity of their demands.
However, the lack of response from the government led to another massive protest on July 23, 2023, where disabled ex-servicemen, war widows, and veterans from all over India gathered at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. This demonstration aimed to draw attention during the monsoon session of Parliament, starting from July 20, 2023.
Despite months of protests, the Federation of Veterans’ Association persistently sought dialogue with the government. In a crucial meeting, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh was briefed extensively on the pressing concerns. The discussion lasted over 90 minutes, highlighting the depth of discrepancies in veterans’ policies.
However, even after three months, the voices of these brave soldiers remain unheard, overshadowed by election campaigns and political agendas.
This Is a Matter of Faith
The Federation of Veterans’ Association has created a strong, unified platform to advocate for ex-servicemen. Their struggle represents leadership, empowerment, and unwavering determination. This is not just about demands—it is about justice, respect, and the rightful acknowledgment of our heroes.
Their voices must be heard, their rights must be granted, and their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
